NICOLE KRAWCKE

ABOUT NICOLE
Ever since I can remember, I've adored books. I loved hearing stories, and eventually learning to read them myself. That love naturally transformed into telling the stories of others.
Journalism is an ever changing profession, and there has never been a more exciting time to be in the field than right now. The lines between print, broadcast and online media are blurring. Journalists are using technological advances such as social media to reach and engage wider audiences.
I see it everyday in my Facebook and Twitter feeds, and I've used both social media platforms as sourcing for hyper-local news stories myself.
As an editor with Patch, a community specific news and information website owned by Hale Global LLC and AOL, I spent more than two years finding new and exciting ways to tell the traditional news story and draw reader engagement. Some of my favorites were hosting a live Q&A about the synthetic drugs K2 and Spice with representatives from the Brighton Center for Recovery and teaming up with Childhelp to host a 5K event to raise awareness and funds to combat child abuse and neglect. The event was named after Dominick Calhoun, a 4-year-old Argentine Township boy who was beaten to death by his mother's boyfriend in April 2010.
As a communications professional, I have utilized my expertise to interact with the public in unique and effective manners, including establishing relationships both virtually and in-person with community members, often recruiting them to provide content for Patch sites.
When I"m not exploring digital content and social media, I can often be found with my nose stuck in a book - or most recently, my new Kindle HD.
